The Texas Education Agency (TEA) will introduce a new student testing system in the 2011-2012 school year called the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) pronounced “star.” This new test for all students in grades 3-11 will replace the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS).
This La Joya ISD Web site provides a basic overview of STAAR and specifies which students will be taking this new statewide test in the coming school years. (Please note that some high school students will continue to take TAKS until graduation.)
Families should be aware of the specific requirements of STAAR as it pertains to their children. To familiarize yourself with this new testing system, visit the tabs for elementary, middle and high school depending on your student’s age. You may also want to look ahead to the next level’s information to better prepare your child for academic success. If your child receives special education services or is an English Language Learner, visit the Special Populations tab.
The Additional Resources tab provides links to other materials that will further acquaint you with the STAAR testing system and its requirements. You can also contact your child’s school counselors for more information.
This Web site will be updated as more information from TEA becomes available. The date of revision will appear at the bottom of each page.
If you find this information to be useful, please consider sharing it with others. You will find a "Share" option to the right for your convenience.
La Joya ISD will create a nurturing environment that encourages every student to reach their highest potential.
